the yard's makers markets

makers markets

Throughout the year, The Yard hosts the Hastings Makers Market. With almost 50 independent stalls and a plethora of open studios, the atmosphere is electric. It’s been a joy holding the market, as soon as it’s finished, we’re already looking forward to the next!

We’ve had a fantastic selection of small and local businesses, crafts people and artists sell at the market. With everything from hand baked dog treats to vintage treasure, wooden live edge furniture to artisan ceramics, the quality, mix and number of stall holders is unparalleled.

The Hastings Makers Market is a brilliant opportunity to support, small, local business and makers, not only giving visitors the chance to meet the people that make to products, but giving them a glimpse into the space they make them in.

Where is the Hastings Makers Market?

The Makers Market is hosted by The Yard, Waterworks Road, Hastings, TN341RT. There is no parking within The Yard on market days, but there’s a Morrisons car park a few minutes’ walk away (2 hours free parking) and lots of permit free, on street parking a short walk away.

When is the Hastings Makers Market?

The Market will be held on April 26th, May 24th, June 21st, September 20th, November 29th and December 14th. The markets are open between 11am and 4pm.

How do I get a pitch at the Hastings Makers Market?

Please complete this google form. We’ll take note of all the dates you’re interested in and will confirm if you’ve got a pitch 3 weeks before your requested date. We can’t promise you’ll get a pitch at all the dates you want, as we’re often oversubscribed and it’s important to us to have new and or different stall holders every month, as this keeps it interesting for visitors.

What can I sell at the Hastings Makers Market?
We offer pitches to people selling handmade and vintage products, as well as fresh, locally made or grown food, garden and house plants. We love having an eclectic mix of stallholders. We don’t offer pitches to people selling new, mass-produced goods or catering vans, as we don’t feel these complement the Hastings Makers Market.

How much/what size is a pitch?
A pitch is about 3m2 and costs £35 / smaller pitches cost £25 (please note these are limited). The majority of the pitch fee goes to charity. Payment will be taken in advance. If you cancel less than 7 days in advance of the Makers Market you are booked to attend you will not get a refund. You have to supply your own table/chairs/everything you need to display and sell your products.

Can I bring a gazebo?

We prefer stallholders to leave their gazebos at home, but understand this isn’t always practical. If you need to bring a gazebo please make sure you bring appropriate weights, as The Yard is all hard standing, tent pegs don’t work.

Is there power for stall holders at the market?
Power can be supplied, but needs to be prearranged. Please email hello@hastingsmakersmarket.co.uk before you book your pitch.

Do you have spaces inside?
We don't. All pitches are outside.

Which charities does the Makers Market support?

This year we’re supporting The Grumpy Cook Cafe, who help local people in temporary accommodation and food poverty. We’ve helped a lot of different charities over the last few years, from smaller local charities like St Michaels Hospice and the Refugee Buddy Project to bigger charities like McMillian Cancer Research. We’re always open to recommendations of charities who are doing good in our local area, if you’ve got a suggestion, please get in touch.

When all pitches are full, the Hastings Makers Market raises just shy of £1000 every market. We couldn’t do it without our stallholders, and, of course, all the visitors, so thank you all! It’s not only a privilege to organise the Hastings makers market, but a real pleasure, long may it continue.
